Badged Guides Dinner
The 2026 Badged Guides Dinner will take place, for the first time, outside London. It will be on Friday 28 August and will be in Castlegate House, an impressive Grade1 Georgian building in York. We will rendezvous in a York pub, to be designated, at 1800 hrs, move to Castlegate House for a talk on the military history of Masonry ay 1900 hrs and eat at 1930 hrs. The meal will be three courses with wine, with a choice from two starters, two main courses and two desserts and the cost will be a maximum of £36.50 per head. If numbers attending are good, this cost will reduce as it includes a share of the room hire. Badged Guides are asked to support the annual Badged Guides Dinner in order to meet fellow Badged ones and help entertain our guests.
Rail travel to York is cheaper if booked well in advance and there are plenty of hotels in central York. To help you find a convenient one, the address of Castlegate House is 26 Castlegate, York, YO1 9RP. As the date falls on a bank holiday weekend early hotel booking is advised.
On the Saturday morning, 29 August, there will be a visit to the York Military Museum for those who want to learn more about the Prince of Wales’ Regiment of Yorkshire and the Royal Dragoon Guards. It is a small but quite excellent museum and is less than 100 yards from Castlegate House.
Badged members can secure their seat at dinner by a bank transfer of £36.50 to The International Guide of Battlefield Guides 30-90-90, 33783568. Please use your surname and BGD as the reference. Once you have done this please email me at john.cotterill@btinternet.com to let me know you are coming.
Badged Guides from the provinces have journeyed to London since the inception of this event so it is hoped that, this year, their metropolitan brothers and sisters will return the favour. Later in the year those attending will be asked to make their menu choices and given the pub RV.
