Operations Chariot and Frankton: Guild Recce

A CPD event will take place in September to study Operations Chariot and Frankton – colloquially known as “The Greatest Raid of All” and “The Cockleshell Heroes” respectively. . The programme will consist of a study at the docks at St Nazaire on the 17th and 18th followed by the route taken by the Frankton RM Commandos and the initial stages of their Escape and Evasion route over the 19th, 20th and 21st. There will also be an optional pre event at the Combined Operations Museum in Essex to study the only surviving cockleshell from the raid and associated uniforms, weapons and equipment on the 7th September. To keep cost down we are not basing the event in one hotel or providing transport but allowing members to arrange their own accommodation and travel arrangements to suit them. There will be a desire for car sharing. The fixed cost for everyone attending will depend on numbers but will not exceed £100 per attendee.
Members who wish to attend should now book their accommodation and express your interest in attending to the Chair by 1st August. Members are welcome to invite a guest if the guest has not attended a previous Guild Event but do inform the Chair of their name and details. Please let me know if you wish to attend this, regardless of whether you have already expressed an interest. Your email expression acknowledges acceptance of the Guild’s Event Terms and Conditions (here).
