Regional Event at Lechlade

A one day regional event will take place at Lechlade on Saturday 25 July 2026 (note that this has changed from the date originally planned).  The theme of the event will be “Where Legend Meets Primary Sources”.  The intention is to deliver the local story of an English Civil War fight at Lechlade on the Gloucestershire-Wiltshire border, with all its fabrications and embellishments, then explain that only parts of it can be proven and invite people to try and determine which bits they are.  Finally, by revealing and handing out copies of the original description of the action, to emphasise the importance of primary sources to research as well as the role of IMP (Inherent Military Probability).  As part of our efforts to cement relations with the Battlefields Trust and the British Commision for Military History there will be 10 places allocated to each organisation – 30 in all.  The event will end with a pub lunch in a suitably historic venue.  Applications please to Chris Scott at christopher.scott174@gmail.com.
