Frank Baldwin

Frank Baldwin has been leading battlefield tours since 1987 and has worked full time in the battlefield touring business since 2006. He is currently a self employed battlefield travel specialist, setting up battlefield touring services as well as guiding tours. 

He has a depth of historic knowledge covering a wide range of periods and destinations. Besides covering the western European battlefields of the two World Wars, he has guided battlefields in the pre C20th including the Seven Years War in Germany and many British Battlefields from Caesar to the Cold war. Frank has a specialist knowledge of aviation history of the world wars and the aerial dimension to the battlefields of the world wars and has set up Air- Power Tours to offer aviation related tours.

Frank served in the Royal Artillery between 1979 and 1989, leaving as a Major. He has expertise in leading tours for groups of gunners and ex gunners, promoted through Gunner Tours

He is committed to developing and promoting Britain's Battlefield heritage as tourist destinations. The battlefields of Britain cover twenty centuries of history from Boudicca to the Blitz. Frank is a past Chairman of the Battlefields Trust and was part of the team which rediscovered the battlefield of Bosworth 1485. He has set up British Battlefields to provide a commercial service for inbound and domestic battlefield tourism

He helps organisations to learn from other people's mistakes, drawing on military history and statecraft as business management case studies. More details here. 

A graduate of the University of Sheffield and Warwick Business School Frank is a member of the British Commission for Military History.  He served as the education member of the Council of the Guild of battlefield Guides 2008-11. He drafted the Guild's strategy for equipping guides for the educational sector and organised professional development weekends for the Guild on the skills and expertise needed for guiding school parties and armed forces groups. Between 2006-2012 he was part of the management team of one of the largest battlefield tour operators with responsibility for recruiting, training and managing battlefield guides and promoting battlefield tours.
